SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS

Is it what you think?

Most people have been warned at some time or another about being aware of their surroundings to ensure their safety. This requires SKILL and EXPERIENCE.

ASSESSING AND RE-ASSESSING how you reacted or even worse IF you even reacted.

Our BRAIN is the strongest defense we have.

Military training harnesses battle-proofing or conditioning as well as a grueling physical

aspect to prepare for combat.

MMA fighters train physically and mentally using fear and aggression in a psychological way

to become successful.

So what happens when you have put in all the time of preparation, sweat equity, precautions and training to be the one that possesses all the necessary things to handle an ambush attack? You would probably dominate the situation reflecting on the fact that you recognized danger, processed it, used controlled measures and then said I’m glad I train….

BUT what if you find your “Situational Awareness” has a gaping hole you never thought about? Or it wasn’t an “ambush attack” but a less likely one….a trap or a deception. Blindsided…. think about it because it happens.

Now what?

Assess and Re-assess

Search for clues like

  • Behavior
  • Body language
  • Proximity

Make note of differences or unusual interest that are not the “norm”. This is probably the most down played area because they don’t want someone to think they are over-reacting which turns out to be a mistake. You were given internal senses – for a reason. Your next course of action is important and no action may turn out to be a critical one.

Prey will often observe you and wait for you to be distracted….then WHAM it happens and you never saw it coming. Your training, yes but maybe just maybe you missed an aspect….somewhere.

Develop Situational Awareness:

Drill it – Practice scenarios and use different people
Position yourself – Be ready by watching your surroundings
Hone your Sensory Acuity – listen to your intuition
Make it a habit – Seals it to become part of your unconscious reaction

I encourage you to be physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually ready for anything that comes your way. I hope you will do some research and not fall victim.
